A Note From A Parent

My promise to my children as long as I live I am your parent first, your friend second. I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare and hunt you down like a blood hound, when needed because I LOVE YOU!!!!! When you understand that I will know you are a responsible adult. You will NEVER find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than I do! If you don't hate me once in your life- I am not dong my job properly.

I saw this letter from a parent and I thought I should share it. Really food for thought for me...

RIP to the kids that died...its so pathetic....

Everybody is talking about guns laws and all, but for me I think it starts from the beginning. Once you become a parent you have to give it your all, like the note says till they understand, then you know they are adults. I don't subscribe to the African mentality of having a lot of children. its not worth it!!!!!

Anyways Merry Christmas everybody, I hope we all enjoy the holidays and thank God for just keeping us alive.

Ciao.

  1. Hmmm, Phiri, from the tone of that letter, I do believe I am a parent! *eyelashes*.

As for that senseless killing, in America, and indeed everywhere, God help us.

    Merry Christmas.

  2. Love the letter to the parents, I remember whilst growing up that I thought my parents were the most bipolar and warped creatures on earth but as you grow, it make sense.

RIP to the lil kids and season's greetings :)

  3. I love that letter and sent a modified and Nigerianised version to my two older kids just before they became teens so they can know in advance cos whether you like it or not after the terrible twos, as a parent, you will deal with the terrible teens. The level of the challenge will be determined by what you sow into their lives in the years before the teen years.

Is it really about guns? What could have gone wrong in that child's life that would make him do that? Kill his own mom and then go off on a shooting spree killing young children? What kind of world are we living in that would produce people with utterly zero respect for the sanctity of human life?

Merry Christmas Ibifiri. I hope you and 'uncle' celebrate your first Christmas as parents in a special way! Plus it is 'madam's first Christmas too! So much to be thankful for....regardless of all the madness in the world.

  5. RIP to all the little angels who were cut short. Sincerely, every parent must understand that it takes beyond having children to be a parent. Parenting demands your all at every time. This way, we can raise children with better values and 'Fear' for the Almighty God. Season's Greetings and best wishes for the year ahead.

  9. The parent should sha not overdo it o, cos too much high-handedness can make you lose the kid for life. Study the child, and know how to handle the child.

  10. You are right every is talking about gun laws but they should be talking about mental illness. I believe some people have mental illness that a mother's love can not cure. They need outside help. They need Jesus, but they also need a community of people that knows how to handle people like them.

  12. Nice one! "I am your parent first, your friend second".
That's what I used to tell my lil wards when they start that 'you re not my friend" malarkey when i scold them. I just say 'darling, i am not your friend, i am the grown up in this situation. you listen and obey'. lol. Nasty Aunty :)
