Loved all the comment I got, thanks guys you are the best . Even though it is hard I will just continue being there for my friend. Anyways I decided to talk about this topic, maybe cos it comes with alot of controversy, I am not sure
the Word: "Divorce".
I will like your honest opinions.." what do you think about Divorce?
Should couples divorce if they can't work it out?
And if they do should they remarry, even as christians?
One of the things I do not like though, in Nigeria is this: "the men who get divorced, quickly remarry and have other childrn. While the ladies just remain single for the rest of their lives. In fact society expects them to stay that way. It is almost like a taboo for a woman to remarry, even when she becomes a widow.
I can't wait to read your comments. Thank you
P.S. " Watch Restaurant Stakeout and Restaurant Impossible. I love the show, especially Restaurant Impossible.... But the dirty kitchens can be so irritating...
Do take care and have a lovely day,N I hope you'll had a lovely weekend like I did.
Ciao.

Society definitely plays a role in keeping people where they really shouldnt be. I know someone back in Uganda that has really been through hell so to speak, nut wont divorce the giy coz of amongst other reasons, what society will say, so she's resigned to living a miserable life. Over here though, marriages take the other extreme of lasting all of 72 days (mmm hmmm) in common cases, and nobody raises an eye-brow when either one is married the following week - ok a little extreme ther but u catch my drift.
ReplyDeleteI saw this picture today of a horse tied to a plastic chair, and the horse had this mute resigned look on its face. The caption on the picture read "sometimes the things that prevent us from being free are more mental than physical". Point was the horse was really only stopping itself from being free, coz if it had a change of mind set, the "might" of that lightweight plastic chair can not hold back horse power.
Sorry for the all too long comment !!!
very interesting piece. yes alot of times we are restricted mentally than physically. I just read somehing by Joyce Meyer this morning that says we should develop our dreams through hardwork and determination. Refusing to be pulled down.
Deletetheres no reason (religious, traditional etc) why anybody should stay on a relationship thats not working. its better to get out while you can.
ReplyDeleteyes, it is ok to remarry so long as you know its not going to end like the first one
thank you very much for your comment. really appreciate it.
DeleteBlessings...
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any one answer to this question as the answer is subjective and situational. The thing is no one goes into a marriage thinking "am gonna divorce in a few years from now." The thing is many of us are not prepared for marriage, the challenges it hold and the tenets of those bonds. too often men and women enter into the institution of marriage with their heads full of fluff and fantasy and unspoken agendas and expectation. That in a word is a recipe for disaster.
lol a pastor said that longsuffering is another name for marriage...yep alot of people go into marriage with their heads full of fluffs etc.
DeleteIf and when i get married, i'd like to stay married and be happy and fulfilled in said marriage. But it will never be a do or die affair. If the marriage is not working (after taking every measure possible) or i or my kids are in danger- divorce it is.
ReplyDeleteAs for the taboo of Nigerian women remarrying after divorce/death of their spouse...well that's just one of the many perks of living in such an extremely patriarchal society *sarcasm*
LOl@LadyNgo's sarcasm
ReplyDeleteDivorce is a topic that brings up too many argument especially basing it on our faith.
My opinion is this: Love is 'hard' work and marriage is a 'harder' work. Do the very best to work out your marriage, and if it doesn't work? I think you should get out of it( I say this with submission and respect for the marriage institution). No one should live a miserable life because they had/have a failed marriage. There's so much to live for...being married isn't the zenith of life's achievement. Even though the African culture think it is.
yep that is true.
DeleteWhat else can I add to Lady Ngo and Dayo. I do not champion divorce for it's sake but when a situation calls for it, I'll be the first to suggest it. Even for myself.
ReplyDeletevery true
DeleteDayor totally spoke my mind.
ReplyDeleteDivorce should never be taken lightly. I do think many people never know what they are fully getting into when they decide to get married and spend the rest of their lives together. If divorce is seen as an option it will always rear its head as an alternative....In some cases though like abuse that puts the life of the spouse and or children in danger, then a separation and maybe eventual divorce might be one of the only options. A main prayer is not be unequally yoked to start with!
